CONSTANT, Nuria Evelyn September 1, 1946 July 26, 2010 Nuria and Nora shared 23 years together. Her final two weeks in Hospice was an inspirational, articulate journey. We were supported by the caring energy of all those who crossed our path. Please come celebrate her birthday Wednesday, Sept. 1 from 3-7 p.m. in Victoria. Friends and family across Canada, Hawaii and the U.S. mainland will also party that day. I will let Nuria have the last word. "Don't let yesterday use up too much of today"

LEE, Mickey September 9, 1949 August 21, 2010 Mickey passed away in the early hours of August 21, 2010 from liver cancer. She is survived by Jackie, her partner of 23 years, and her chosen family of friends. She lived the time following her diagnosis with a grace and courage that was inspirational to those around her. Despite the violence and other challenges of her childhood, Mickey grew to become a warm and loving adult with a great sense of humour, a deep spirituality and a strong commitment to her friendships. Mickey was born in Souris, Manitoba and attended the University of Regina, graduating in 1972 with an Education degree. She taught high school in Regina and worked as a manager for BC Housing in Vancouver before attending the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 1987. She practiced as a Registered Massage Therapist in Vancouver and on Salt Spring Island until 2006 work that she loved and for which she had an amazing gift. She retired to Victoria in 2006. At her request, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to the Victoria Hospice Foundation.

Danielle Riendeau --AfterEllen
Radical feminists, curry competitions, book clubs and lesbian make-out sessions beyond the grave — welcome to 2007, where the queer cinema was characterized by humor and romance over high drama, and the Sapphic sidekick replaced the evil lesbian as the stereotype of choice.
Comedies such as Puccini for Beginners and Itty Bitty Titty Committee ruled the American LGBT box office, while, in one of the year's most positive trends, foreign films featuring queer Asian characters — such as Nina's Heavenly Delights and Love My Life — received unprecedented attention. It certainly wasn't all fun and games, however, as more than a few standby stereotypes still reared their ugly heads, mostly within the realm of the horror genre, and lesbian/bi characters were still few and far between in mainstream features.

  Volunteers: Thank You Sharon (Cody)
| Most recent article: Legacy Project by: Cody 2009-10-17 09:44:26 LEGACY PROJECT – VICTORIA LESBIAN SENIORS CARE SOCIETY
Victoria lesbians of all ages want to be accepted and safe in the community they live in. One of the issues for older lesbians is visibility, inclusion and celebration of their lives in long-term care environments. VLSCS intends to do outreach to clinicians and policy makers about issues that affect older gay women. This outreach would be geared to raising awareness within institutional settings and creating welcoming space for women who may be isolated.
Victoria Lesbian Seniors Care Society invites all women interested in participating in the Steering Committee to the Thursday, November 5th, 2009 meeting at James Bay New Horizons, 234 Menzies St, 7 p.m – 9 p.m.
